How to change the key of a song to fit my voice

Ask for the key up or down in semitones, for example “down two semitones”. The pitch moves, the tempo stays the same, and the download keeps the new key.

Free: key changes work on every plan.

Sing it through and tell me if it needs another step. Step by step

  1. Bring the song and confirm the rights.
  2. Sing along once and notice if the high notes are out of reach.
  3. Say “down a whole step” or “up three semitones”.
  4. Download it in the new key, with the vocals or without them.

Say it your way

  • Down a whole step, I can’t reach the high notes.

  • Up three semitones for a female voice.

  • Back to the original key.

Good to know

One semitone is one fret on a guitar or one key on a piano. A whole step is two semitones. The key can move six semitones either way, which covers moving a song between a male and a female range.

Changing the key does not split the song by itself, but a karaoke track usually wants both: split it, mute the vocals, then move the key. Ask “what key is it in?” first if you want to know where you are starting.
