How to isolate the bass line of a song

Split the song and solo the bass. You hear the bass line on its own, and you can slow it down, loop a bar, or ask for it as MIDI to see the notes.

Free: splits, solo, speed and loops. MIDI is part of the song’s analysis.

Step by step

  1. Bring the song and tick the rights box.
  2. Say “solo the bass”.
  3. Slow it down or loop the bar you are learning.
  4. Ask for “the bass line as MIDI” to read the notes in your music app.

Say it your way

  • Solo the bass so I can learn the line.

  • Loop 0:32 to 0:40 so I can learn that bar.

  • Give me the bass line as MIDI.

Good to know

Low notes are hard to hear in a full mix. With the bass on its own you can follow every note, and turning the volume up to 150 percent helps on small speakers.

Once you know the line, mute the bass instead and play it over the band. The same works for any part: the other stem holds guitars, keys and everything that is not voice, drums or bass.
