How to remove the drums from a song to play along

Split the song and say “mute the drums”. The rest of the band plays without them, so you can play your own part, with a click and a slower tempo if you need one.

Free: splits, mutes, loops, speed and the click track.

Step by step

  1. Bring the song and confirm the rights.
  2. Say “mute the drums so I can play along”.
  3. Ask for a click track if you want a steady pulse under the band.
  4. Loop a fill or slow the song down while you learn it.

Say it your way

  • Mute the drums so I can play along.

  • Add a click so I can keep time.

  • Loop the fill before the last chorus.

Good to know

A drumless track keeps the bass, which is the part you lock in with. If you want to hear the original groove first, solo the drums for a pass, then mute them and play it yourself.

A click arrives as its own stem called Click, muted until you turn it on, and it follows the song’s own beat. Slowing the song keeps its pitch, so the band still sounds like the record.
